In brief: Paraguay’s airports reopen for general aviation

* Paraguay’s President Mario Abdo Benítez has hailed the reopening of Paraguay’s main airports - including the 'Silvio Pettirossi' international airport in the capital Asunción - for direct flights and general aviation, after these were suspended for seven months to stop the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19). Abdo Benítez tweeted that the airports are open for regular flights, but that strict sanitary controls are in place. The head of the national civil aviation authority (Dinac), Félix Kanasawa, said that the suspension of regular flights between March and September (humanitarian flights continued to operate) had a strong impact on Dinac, which registered a 55% drop in income compared with the same period in 2019, while the number of passengers was down 91%, and the number of flights dropped by 46%.
