* Ecuador’s economy & finance minister
Mauricio Pozo,
appointed in early October, has announced that he will travel to Washington DC on 27 October to meet with officials from the US Department of the Treasury, and with International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing director
Kristalina Georgieva, among others. Pozo said that he hoped to make progress towards the signing of a
trade agreement with the US, agreed provisionally in February but delayed by the onset of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The meeting with Georgieva, Pozo said, will involve a review (to be held quarterly) of Ecuador’s progress towards the economic goals established as conditions in the country’s recent
US$6.5bn credit agreement with the IMF. Pozo voiced optimism that the anti-corruption law requested by the IMF will be presented to the legislature and approved by the end of this year.
