CHILE: Facing familiar challenges

The resounding victory of the ‘apruebo’ vote in favour of a new constitution in Chile has set the country on a two-year course for the rewriting of its magna carta [WR-20-43].  While the result of the 25 October referendum has been hailed as a historic step, it has not done away with the frustrations of Chilean civil society or the opposition’s challenges to President Sebastián Piñera’s government – which finds itself even further weakened by the forced departure of a senior cabinet minister this week.
