In brief: Argentina’s industrial activity breaks negative streak

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the latest figures for manufacturing in the industrial sector, which show that industrial manufacturing grew by 3.2% in September compared with the same month last year – the first positive year-on-year variation in the industrial production index (IPI) for manufacturing since last December. In seasonally-adjusted terms, the manufacturing IPI grew by 4.3% in September, compared with August, while it has accumulated losses of -10.8% in 2020 so far. Meanwhile, the construction sector continues to struggle, with a -3.9% annual variation in the September index for construction activity (Isac), and an accumulated 28.9% drop in January-September 2020 compared with the same period in 2019. The Isac grew by 3.9% in September compared with August.
