* The Green Climate Fund (GCF), set up by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to help developing countries reduce greenhouse gas emissions, has approved a proposal made by Argentina’s ministry of environment and sustainable development. The funding, worth a total of US$82m, will go towards reducing emissions caused by forest degradation and deforestation, and will help Argentina make progress towards official targets for the conservation of native forests. The approved proposal includes plans to support rural and indigenous communities, to invest in forest fire prevention and control, and to encourage more sustainable usage of forest products.
