In brief: Uruguay’s unemployment continues to rise
* Uruguay’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures which show the national unemployment rate in September was 11%, up from 10.8% the previous month. The release of the latest figures comes as Gabriel Murara, the president of Uruguay’s chamber of industry (CIU), a private sector lobby which groups some 17,000 firms, recently warned that jobs are not recovering as quickly as industry from the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Murara made his remarks at an event held to mark the 122th anniversary of the CIU which was attended by President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou and the minister of industry, energy & mining, Omar Paganini.
