In brief: Repsol plans to continue operating in Venezuela

* Antonio Brufau, the CEO of Spanish oil company Repsol, has told the country’s stock market commission (CNMV) that the company has no plans to abandon its activities in Venezuela. In February, US special envoy for Venezuela Elliott Abrams warned Repsol and a handful of other companies to “tread carefully”, adding that “if the sanctions change, we will talk to Repsol”. Brufau noted that a modification of US policy “could affect” its stance, but insisted that “Repsol continues to adopt the necessary measures to maintain its activities in Venezuela, with full respect for international sanctions”.
