*Brazil’s economy ministry has released its latest bi-monthly review of revenue and expenditures, according to which it now expects the federal government to close the year with a primary deficit of R$844.57bn (US$157bn), a slight improvement on the R$861bn deficit projected in the previous bi-monthly review. The economy ministry now expects the government’s net revenue to be slightly higher (R$1.190trn) and primary expenditures to be slightly lower (R$2.035trn) this year than projected in September, largely due to an improvement in the projected tax take and a drop in compulsory social expenses related to the Bolsa Família conditional cash transfer programme (as most of the beneficiaries have instead been receiving an emergency handout during the coronavirus [Covid-19] pandemic).
