In brief: Costa Rica approves reduced budget

* Costa Rica’s 57-member unicameral national legislature has approved the 2021 national budget. It has been the topic of heated debate amid efforts to cut spending from the government’s initial proposal of ¢11.4trn (US$18.9bn), of which 45.1% would be financed through taxes and 54.9% through debt.
