Colombia’s President Iván Duque has long been keen to insist that his criticisms of the country’s transitional justice system (JEP) are based not on ideological opposition to the notion of transitional justice, but rather on his belief that the JEP is not properly equipped to lead this process. Recent attempts by the ruling right-wing Centro Democrático (CD) to float the idea of repealing the JEP were met by a wave of criticism – the International Criminal Court (ICC) notably described the JEP as a model example of transitional justice, a “benchmark for the world”.
