COSTA RICA | Budget approved. Costa Rica’s 2021 budget was approved by 43 votes to three in the legislative assembly, with 11 legislators absent, this week. Deputies trimmed US$270m from the draft budget sent by the government led by President Carlos Alvarado, which they deemed to be non-essential spending in the context of a fiscal crisis and economic recession caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
