* A report by the Rosário stock exchange in Argentina has revealed that the country’s grain exports fell by 6% in 2020, compared with 2019. The impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on consumption patterns and the international market, and the effects on produciton of dry and hot weather last February-March, explain this decline. Nevertheless, with grain shipments totalling 56.6m tonnes, last year’s exports were the second best performance on record and 23% higher than the average volume exported over the past five years. Maize and sorghum exports performed particularly well, with maize exports increasing by 3% and making up 64% of total grain exports, while sorghum shipments grew 43%. Meanwhile, exports of soya, barley, and wheat fell 30%, 17%, and 8%, respectively.
