* Chile’s under-secretariat for international economic relations (Subrei) has revealed that Chile’s trade balance totalled US$12.74bn in January, a 3% increase on the trade balance recorded in January 2020 and the highest trades surplus figure for the month of January since 2013. Imports fell 2.6% year-on-year to US$5.7bn, while exports grew 8% to US$7.04bn, the highest figure ever recorded for the month of January. According to Subrei, record strong sales of copper concentrate, fresh cherries, fruit juices, plywood, cardboard, and wooden boards drove this increase in exports. China absorbed 47% of Chile’s exports, with the US, Japan, the European Union, and South Korea representing the four following top export destinations for Chilean products.
