Oscar Llamosas, and the president of Paraguay’s central bank (BCP),
José Cantero, have said they expect Paraguay’s GDP to grow 4% in 2021 after contracting 1% in 2020 as a result of the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Speaking in a joint press conference, Llamosas highlighted that the 2020 GDP contraction for Paraguay was one of the smallest in the region, attributing it to measures implemented as part of the government’s economic recovery plan such as public investment and access to loans. However, he said there is still uncertainty regarding the pandemic which means that it is necessary to be prudent this year.
