HAITI: Prison break adds to security woes

A massive prison break last week involving the escape of one of Haiti’s most notorious gang leaders, Arnel Joseph, is serving as the latest sign of the country’s rapidly deteriorating security situation. It coincides with protests demanding the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse, whose term the opposition maintains ended last month [WR-21-06]. Meanwhile, the international community, which has so far backed Moïse in his insistence that his term ends next year, is expressing growing frustration.
