Bachelet defends Colombia’s JEP

Michelle Bachelet, the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights, expressed concern last week about attacks on Colombia’s transitional justice system (JEP). The JEP was introduced as part of the 2016 peace accord with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) and is based on the idea that Colombia’s long internal conflict – in which more than a quarter of a million people died – requires a special independent effort to establish truth, justice, and reconciliation.
