In brief: Unemployment in Costa Rica dips slightly

* Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures which show that the national unemployment rate for the rolling November 2020-January 2021 quarter was 19.1%. This is an improvement on the 20.6% rate registered the previous rolling quarter but represents a 6.8 percentage-point increase on the unemployment rate in the same quarter in 2020 – an increase which stems from the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on the economy. The figures for the November 2020-January 2021 quarter show that unemployment is higher among women (24.6%) than men (15.2%).
