In brief: Transport workers on strike in Peru

* Transport unions including Asociación de Empresas de Transporte Interprovincial de Pasajeros (Cotrapoip) and Unión Nacional de Conductores del Perú (UNT Perú) have begun a national indefinite strike over complaints regarding high fuel prices and toll rates. Regions affected by blockades on highways include Ica, Arequipa, Tacna, Lima, Junín, Cusco, Puno and Loreto among others. A meeting which took place yesterday (16 March) between the union leaders and government officials including transport & communications minister Eduardo González failed to result in a breakthrough.
