Introduction

The route south through Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru had long been a relatively safe corridor for Venezuelans escaping the country’s long-running humanitarian crisis. Such migrants still frequently face stigmatisation, and often struggle to secure the documentation required for access to social security or regular employment – yet over 3m of the estimated 5.4m to have fled Venezuela in recent years have nonetheless able to settle, however precariously, in these three countries. We begin this March edition of the Latin American Regional Report: Andean Region by considering the situation facing these migrants.
