INDIA’S VACCINE DIPLOMACY. At the end of February, the director of the Pan American Health Organisation (Paho), Dr Carissa Etienne, described the Americas, including the Caribbean, as being at the “epicentre” of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and she said vaccinations for the region should be a “global priority”. India is one country that has been taking the needs of the Caribbean seriously, donating significant quantities of vaccines in what is a major diplomatic initiative for India, mostly aimed at neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Oman, Afghanistan but also now embracing the Caribbean.
