In recent days two opposition parties, Partido Conservador (PC) and Partido de Restauración Democrática (PRD), have effectively been eliminated from the 7 November general election after the electoral authority (CSE) cancelled their legal status. A money-laundering investigation has also been launched into high-profile opposition presidential hopeful Cristiana Chamorro Barrios, the daughter of former president Violeta Chamorro (1990-1997), raising question marks over her political future.
