In brief: Airport workers on strike in Bolivia

* An indefinite strike has begun amongst Bolivian airport workers, with only emergency and humanitarian flights being staffed, as well as those that were already in the air at the launch of the strike. The airports authority (AASANA) said that the strike is in response to the delayed payment of salaries and insufficient government support to the aviation industry. The government had hoped to deter the strike, yesterday (23 June) proposing a revolving fund of nearly B$84m (US$12.2m) in support for the sector. Public Works Minister Edgar Montaño said that with this proposed funding “there is no reason for our friends at AASANA to radicalise their methods and harm Bolivia's aviation sector”.
