Introduction
Ecuador’s new President Guillermo Lasso arrived in office with a security plan that emphasises crime prevention rather than tougher policing. That strategy will now be put to the test, and the pressure will be on to reverse Ecuador’s rising homicide rate, growing prominence as an international drug trafficking hub, and mounting prison violence.
