In brief: Brazil’s latest coffee harvest beats export records

* Brazil’s national council of coffee exporters (Cecafé) has reported that coffee exports during the 2020/2021 harvest (which runs July to June) reached a record 49.6m sacks (one sack = 60kg), a 10.1% increase on the previous record in 2018/2019. This figure is also up 13.3% on the 2019/2020 harvest year’s exports. This record volume of exports yielded US$5.84bn in revenue, up 13.4% on the earnings of the 2019/2020 harvest and the highest figure in five years. During the 2020/2021 harvest, Brazil – which is the world’s largest coffee exporter – sold coffee to 115 different countries; its five top export markets in this period were the US, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Japan.
