In brief: Argentina announces green development production plan

*Argentina’s minister of productive development, Matías Kulfas, has announced the launch of the government’s ‘Plan de Desarrollo Productivo Verde’, a green development plan that involves the investment of Ar$10bn (US$104m) in over 3,500 Argentine businesses across different sectors. The plan focuses around four pillars: to promote the green economy in national industries; encourage the transition to a circular economy; promote sustainable production to increase competitiveness; and develop the “sustainable industrialisation” of natural resources. Kulfas presented the plan as part of the government’s efforts to drive economic recovery, particularly in the wake of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and said that “this plan is the start of a pathway towards sustainable development and the green economy of the 21st century”. “We can build a sustainable Argentina with national production”, he said.
