* The government of São Paulo state in Brazil has successfully held an auction for the concession to run and enhance 22 regional airports, collecting a total R$22.3m (US$4.36m) in the sale. The airports were split into two blocks of 11 airports each; the Aeroportos Paulista consortium was the only bidder for the Northwest block, while the Voa-NW-Voa-SE consortium secured the rights to the Southeast block. Collectively, the concession holders are expected to invest a total R$447m into the expansion and development of all the airports over the next 30 years. According to the São Paulo state government, between them the 22 airports currently receive 2.4m passengers annually – six of the airports operate commercial flights, while 13 others have the capacity to be developed into regular flight routes. “We are completing our eighth public-private partnership concession agreement here. This reinforces the commitment to a smaller, leaner, more efficient state, focused on meeting the priorities of the public service in the health, education, and security areas,” the São Paulo deputy governor, Rodrigo Garcia, said.
