St Lucia switches tack on Venezuela after opposition triumph

The freshly elected government of St Lucia wasted little time in charting a new diplomatic course. Prime Minister Philip Pierre, who took office on 28 July after his opposition St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) defeated the incumbent United Workers Party (UWP), announced on 9 August that St Lucia would be withdrawing from the Lima group of hemispheric nations pushing for political change in Venezuela and adopt the foreign policy of non-intervention and non-interference in the affairs of a sovereign state enunciated by the 15-member Caribbean Community (Caricom).
