In brief: FDI up in Brazil

* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has reported that foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country totalled US$6.1bn in July, representing a 17.3% increase on the US$5.2bn that the country received in FDI in June. According to a BCB statement, the vast majority (US$6bn) of FDI in July took the form of capital participation, whilst inter-company operations amounted to US$78m. The BCB stated that cumulative FDI in the 12 months to July 2021 totalled US$47.5bn (representing 3.04% of GDP). This marked a 27.4% decrease on last year, when FDI totalled US$65.5bn (4.06% of GDP).
