* Guatemala’s economy minister,
Antonio Malouf, has said that Guatemala’s central bank (Banguat) is forecasting that the country’s GDP will grow 5% in 2021, after contracting 2% in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. He said that this growth is set to be driven by attracting new foreign direct investment (FDI); access to new markets; and expanding opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Malouf also noted that Banguat’s GDP projection was above projections by the World Bank (3.6%); United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac) (3.5%); and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) (4.5%).
