* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures for the consumer price index (IPCA), which show that monthly inflation stood at 0.87% in August. Although a slight slowdown from the 0.96% inflation recorded for July, this is the highest inflation figure for the month of August in over two decades. It brings annual inflation in August to 9.68%, up from 8.99% in July. Monthly inflation in August was driven by an increase in prices in the food & drink (1.39%) and transport (1.46%) sectors in particular.
