In brief: CAF approves loan for Ecuador

* The Latin American Development Bank (CAF) has approved a US$250m loan for Ecuador, in support of government policies and to help stabilise the country’s economy following the recession resulting from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. According to the CAF, the loan will be used to promote a productive reactivation of the economy with emphasis on sustainable development and growth; to strengthen the social protection system with measures to safeguard the incomes of the most vulnerable households; and to support the sustainability of public finances by ensuring a sustainable debt path, as well as generating confidence in the country’s economy and strengthening the dollarisation scheme. According to Sergio Díaz-Granados, executive president of the CAF, the loan will help “lay the foundations for lasting growth that will benefit all Ecuadoreans”.
