* Honduras’ central bank (BCH) has released the latest figures for its monthly economic activity index (Imae), which show that economic activity grew 15.6% in July 2021 year-on-year, the fifth consecutive month of growth after increasing 20.9% in June, 30.5% in May, 27.0% in April, and 13.5% in March. The Imae figures show that in the first seven months of 2021, economic activity increased 12.6% compared with the same period in 2020. Honduras’ economy contracted 9% in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the latest (August 2021) forecast by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac) expects that Honduras’ GDP will grow by 5% in 2021.
