Homero Figueroa has announced that the government’s proposed budget for 2022 is for RD$1.46trn (US$25.65bn), down from the RD$1.95trn approved last year. Based on projected income of D$871bn and a deficit of 3%, the budget proposal, the full details of which have yet to be publicly revealed, is due to be sent to congress by 1 October at the latest. Speaking to the press, Figueroa said that there would be increases in spending on health, education and social protection and cuts to spending in other areas although he did not provide specifics.
