In brief: Argentine government confirms price freeze

* The Argentine government led by President Alberto Fernández has confirmed that it has reached an agreement to freeze prices on a swathe of mass consumer products, in a bid to limit the impact of inflation on consumers. After discussions with representatives from the production and sales sectors, the domestic trade secretariat issued a resolution establishing “the temporary fixing of maximum sale prices to the consumer for all producers, traders, and distributors” on 1,432 consumer products. The price of the products in question will be fixed to the 1 October level, with the freeze to remain in place for 90 days from then, or until the end of the year. The secretary for domestic trade, Roberto Feletti, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement reached with producers and traders – the government initially sought to freeze prices on around 1,650 products.
