Airport uncertainty could undermine efforts to boost tourism

The launch took place in the city of Los Angeles, but the delegation is also planning to visit Chicago, New York, Houston, and San Antonio, which altogether account for 40% of US tourists that visit Mexico. The Mexican government is promoting specific developments such as the Islas Marías (an archipelago of four islands belonging to Mexico), the 132 Pueblos Mágicos (an initiative to promote various towns that offer visitors special experiences due to their natural beauty, cultural richness, and traditions), and of course the Tren Maya railway, the government’s flagship infrastructure project which will link the Yucatán peninsula with the rest of south-eastern Mexico. The campaign is also targeting population of Mexican descent, inviting them to visit the land of their forebearers.
