Lourdes Maldonado told reporters that the figures had exceeded previous expectations and Inguat is forecasting that 598,033 international tourists will visit the country by the end of the year, bringing US$299m in revenue. According to official figures, 593,989 tourists visited Guatemala in 2020, down from 2.56m in 2019. As elsewhere in the region, Guatemala’s tourism sector was badly damaged as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
