Iván Duque has announced that French companies will invest US$2.3bn in Colombia, following a trip to France where he met his French counterpart
Emmanuel Macron. According to a press release by the Colombian presidency, Duque’s agenda was focused on economic reactivation, trade & investment, renewable energy, and the fight against climate change, among other things. The press release underlined the strength of bilateral economic relations, noting that Colombia’s exports to France totalled US$124.2m in 2020, up 9.2% on 2019. According to the same source France is one of the biggest foreign employers in Colombia where over 200 French companies operate, directly employing over 100,000 Colombians.
