In brief: Production up in Peru

* Peru’s national statistics institute (Inei) has published figures showing that national production increased by 4.55% in October 2021, compared to the same month in 2020. The largest year-on-year increases in production were seen in hotels and restaurants (62.11%); transport, storage, and courier services (13.31%); and telecoms (7.98%). The sectors that saw reduced year-on-year production in October were fishing (-33.15%); construction (-3.10%); and finance and insurance (-6.86%). The October figure brings accumulated growth in the first ten months of 2021 to 15.99%. Peru’s economy & finance minister Pedro Francke said yesterday that Peru’s economy is expected to grow 13% this year, the highest in Latin America and “at least three percentage points” above the forecast made at the start of the year.
