*Mexico’s government has regularised used cars that have been imported illegally in the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Michoacán, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Sonora and Tamaulipas. In these states - where most of these vehicles, known locally as ‘autos chocolate’, are located – private owners can now legalise their vehicles by paying a fee of M$2,500 (US$122) per car, without needing a certificate of origin, prior permission from the economy ministry or registration on the importation register. The decree, published in the official gazette was signed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Security Minister Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Finance Minister Rogelio Ramírez de la O and Economy Minister Tatiana Clouthier.
