Introduction

On 28 January, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Argentina said they had reached an understanding on the restructuring of the US$44.5bn debt that Argentina owes the IMF, possibly signalling the end of the South American country’s latest debt saga. Although it now looks like Argentina will avoid a default in March, the situation is not entirely straightforward, as outlined in the first piece of the February 2022 issue of the Latin American Regional Report: Brazil & Southern Cone.
