BRAZIL: Parties seal Lula-Alckmin alliance

Two inveterate rivals will compete on the same ticket in Brazil’s presidential elections in October. The Partido Socialista Brasileiro (PSB) formally appointed Geraldo Alckmin on 8 April to be the running mate of former president Lula da Silva (2003-2011). Five days later, the left-wing Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) also ratified the alliance, confirming the much-anticipated union between two longstanding political foes.
