Public security and the upcoming elections

Public security was one of the cornerstones of Jair Bolsonaro’s campaign when he successfully ran for the presidency in Brazil in 2018. Voter concern with public security has since subsided significantly, for a number of reasons. But Bolsonaro and his followers, known for their hardline security stance, look set to bring the issue back into the public discussion as a way of gathering support as the October 2022 general election approaches.
