In brief: Brazil’s Embraer seals order with the Netherlands

* The Netherlands’ ministry of defence has confirmed that the country has put in an order for five C-390 military cargo planes manufactured by Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer. Embraer’s aircraft reportedly won out against US company Lockheed Martin’s C-130J model in the Dutch ministry of defence’s choice to replace four cargo planes which had reached the end of their service line. The first aircraft are due to be delivered in 2026. Embraer released a statement saying it was “honoured” to be working with the Dutch government. The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer has seen a positive turnaround in its fortunes since last year, after a poor performance in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and the falling through of the planned sale of its commercial division to the US’s Boeing.
