Latin American Regional Report: Andean Group in
Colombia, which is set for major change following Gustavo Petro’s inauguration on 7 August. Petro has announced bold plans to deliver “total peace” through the full implementation of the 2016 peace accords with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrilla group and by negotiating with the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) and dissident Farc outfits. Sweeping changes to drug policy are also potentially on the cards, with Petro raising the possibility of reaching negotiated settlements with Colombia’s major drug trafficking organisations.
