In brief: Mexico’s economic activity falls

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released the latest figures for its monthly global indicator of economic activity (IGAE) which show economic activity decreased by 0.3% in June 2022, as compared to the previous month. In seasonally-adjusted monthly terms, activities in the primary sector (agriculture) decreased 6%, while the secondary sector (industry) grew 0.1% and the tertiary sector (services) registered no change. In year-on-year terms, economic activity increased by 1.8%, with the secondary sector up 3.8%, tertiary activities up 1% and the primary sector falling by 3%. Inegi also revised down GDP growth for the second quarter of 2022, which it stated increased by 0.9% in quarterly terms, down from a previous estimate of 1%.
