Violence highlights economic cost of organised crime

A wave of violence which afflicted several parts of Mexico in early August caused alarm among some of the country’s largest business organisations which issued statements highlighting concerns over the impact of organised crime on the legal economy. Business groups also highlighted the potential of Mexico’s worsening security situation to scare off investment, interrupt production, and increase costs.
