* Ecuador’s state oil company, Petroecuador, has opened a tender for the modernisation, expansion, and operation of its Esmeraldas refinery. Esmeraldas is the largest refinery in the country, with capacity to refine 110,000 barrels per day (bpd). According to a Petroecuador statement, the joint venture
“will generate savings for the Ecuadorean state by reducing imports, and will push the improvement of fuel quality.” The government predicts that the refinery’s renovation will save it from importing around 54,000 bpd of fuels that are not currently produced in Ecuador.
