In brief: Peru’s gov’t rolls out loans for small and micro businesses

* Peru’s economy and finance ministry (MEF) has announced that it will provide up to PEN2bn (US$503.8m) in loans to small and micro-sized businesses. The loans will be available to eligible businesses in “all productive sectors”, with the government predicting that around 140,000 businesses will benefit. The MEF also stated that the loans will be available to businesses with no prior credit rating, pending checks by financial authorities. The initiative forms part of the ‘Plan Impulso Perú’ – a wide-ranging economic reactivation plan which aims to boost investment, growth and employment, and which has been praised by Peru’s chamber of commerce.
