ARGENTINA: Fernández forced to ring the changes

President Alberto Fernández was compelled to shake up his cabinet this week after the women, diversity, and equality minister, Elizabeth Gómez Alcorta, tendered her resignation after savaging a government-sanctioned security operation in a Mapuche community in southern Argentina. He also replaced the labour minister, Claudio Moroni, who was hounded out of office by the Kirchnerista wing of the ruling Frente de Todos (FdT) loyal to Vice President Cristina Fernández, and the social development minister, Juan Zabaleta, who has been at loggerheads with social movements demanding more government assistance amid the cost-of-living crisis.
