In brief: Argentina’s economic activity picks up
* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the latest figures on its monthly index of economic activity (Emae) which shows that monthly growth in August was 0.4% while in year-on-year terms economic activity was up 6.4%. This represents an increase both in terms of monthly and annual growth compared to July 2022 when 0.1% monthly growth was registered, and year-on-year growth was 5.9%. The sectors which posted the highest growth year-on-year in August 2022 were: hotels & restaurants (+33.7%) and mining & quarrying (+14.0%). Two sectors recorded yearly decreases, these were electricity, gas & water (-4.6%) and financial intermediation (-0.3%).
